People will respect you more when you're not too expressive. The thing is that you do not know who to trust, especially when in your working circle. Pardon me for being a bit pessimistic but I do believe that people will do beyond your comprehension to bring you down when they got the chance and ability to do so. Yes, probably not the majority of people, however even with their few in numbers, these type of people will be able to ruin your day or even mess up with your career.
